The Children of Portobello & Golborne
A short film directed by Darren O'Mahoney & produced by Alison Aylen
This award-nominated short film, created with children and for children, including research and commentary by Fox and Bevington Primary students tells the story of the diverse history of Portobello and Golborne markets over the last 150 years. As the students search for answers to their multitude of questions they experience the bustle of the market, its vibrant multicultural community and its incredible food first-hand.
This film is part of an educational research project created by The Food Explorers in partnership with the Hammersmith & Fulham Urban Studies Centre (HFUSC). An interactive map, exhibition and historical guide were all developed to accompany the film and meet criteria for the new primary curriculum. These materials are currently being used to educate local school children about their markets.
The Children of Portobello & Golborne was short-listed for an award at the Portobello Film Festival 2015.
